Medication Disposal

The Channahon Fire Protection District would like to assist those in need of returning unwanted medications and equipment. We recommend viewing the following website at www.willcountygreen.com/greenguide/pharm.aspx for information pertaining to the accepted return of these items. The Channahon Fire Protection District is not a collection or return site for these items.

The DEA offers a medication return date for unwanted controlled substances such as pain medications (morphine, fentanyl, etc). This can be found at www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov

The recommended practice for disposal of controlled substances is to empty capsules or tablets that are crushed up into a container with moist coffee grounds or cat litter and disposing with your household garbage. This can be done if you miss or cannot make the collection.
