The first legal meeting of the Channahon Volunteer Fire Department was
held on August 17, 1950. Officers of the department were as follows:
On August 31, 1950 the elections were held for the first fire chief and aids, the results
were as follows:
In 1955 the Channahon Fire Protection District was formed. Today the District is comprised
of a full time Fire Chief, full time Administrative Assistant, ten (10) full time
firefighters/paramedics, eight (8) contract firefighter/paramedics, and 31 volunteers
consisting of firefighters and EMS personnel. The fire district covers over 40 square miles
and serves approximately 8,500 residents. The district has two manned fire houses,
three ALS ambulances, three engines, and numerous other pieces of firefighting apparatus.
The fire district has a Dive team, is part of the Orange CART Team (Combined Area Response
Team), and has Fire Investigators that work with MABAS 15. We are members of MABAS Division
15 and Chief Shabbona Firefighter's Association.
The Channahon Fire Protection District averages over 940 calls per year. The calls consist
of Emergency Medical calls, Fire calls, Mutual Aid calls, Hazmat calls, and Dive calls.
There are wide variety of calls the firefighters and paramedics need to be ready for at all
times.
