The Channahon Fire Protection District currently consists of 2 staffed stations, 15 Full-time
Firefighter/Paramedics, 7 Part-time Firefighters, 19 Volunteer members, 2 Cadets, and 7
Associate Members.
The Channahon Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1950, with the Channahon Fire
Protection District being extablished in 1960. The Emergency Squad was began in 1977. In
1981, the Emergency Squad became the first all EMT-I unit in Illinois. In 1985; the first
full-time EMT-I's were hired working 8-hour shifts. In 1995, full-time Paramedics started
working 24-hour shifts. In 1999, the District hired its first full-time Fire Chief.
